Season 1 Stories

Episode 2

“Remember”

Patrick and Annie stand at their parents’ grave on Long Island with Arnold. Arnold holds a battered, stopped Rolex that shows TUESDAY, SEPT 11, 8:46AM. He hands it to Annie, who looks at it, then hands it to Patrick, who puts it in his pocket. They turn and walk away.

Edward gets into a black limousine with his aunt Angelica. They pull away from a cemetery in New Jersey. Angelica expresses her guilt at not being there to help raise him, that she was too busy traveling the world as a backup-singer. She also confides that she cannot reconcile Edward being raised in a white family, and a white Jewish family at that, when his parents were Episcopalians. Edward suggests Angelica let go all her guilt and that he is happy – happy being Jewish, in love with his adopted family and is going to start intensive swimming training for the next Olympics.

Sapphire stands with an iPad, panning over the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon, holding Rose’s hand. Her sister Ruby, in her hospital bed, cries as her Dad Tom holds the phone, watching Sapphire’s live stream. Sapphire lays two roses at the base of one the memorials.

Gordo and his adopted parents, stand at the 9/11 memorial where Tower One of the World Trade Center stood, but it is night. They let go a floating lantern that slowly lifts up in the air, along with hundreds of other lanterns.

Patrick and Edward go to a popular gay club in NY. Patrick talks about Ira, the guy who bought the Imperial from him, whose father had died on 9/11 and that he was sure Ira was going to be at the memorial service. Edward says he should just call him when he gets back to LA. Just then, a go-go boy, wearing only the tiniest G-string to hold his giant junk, jumps off stage all sweaty, comes up to Patrick, and plants a big kiss on him. He then opens Patrick’s palm and writes his phone number. He winks at Edward and jumps back up on stage.

A huge bonfire burns at Jones Beach in New York on Long Island, as a band plays a cover of Get Down Tonight by K.C. and The Sunshine Band. A banner hangs over the sand, “A CELEBRATION OF LIFE – SEPTEMBER 12”. Everyone wears bright colors as a disco ball spins and lights flash at this giant rave. Two huge searchlights throw two beams of light skyward, representing the two towers of the World Trade Center.

Patrick wearing a hula grass skirt and a flower lei, dances with Edward, wearing Red, White And Blue shorts and shirt. Gordo, in his green nurse scrubs, dances with Annie, who is wearing bunny ears. Sapphire, in toga, twirls LED light wands. There are thousands of people, dancing and chanting, their hands in the air.

Episode 3

“Thank God, We’re Gay”

Patrick wakes up in bed, next to the Go-Go boy, beautiful even in repose. He raises the covers, looks at Go-Go boy’s body and shakes his head. He picks his phone off the floor. From Edward, “Blintzes at the Second Avenue deli or round two with Go-Go Boy?” Patrick texts back, “Both”.

Patrick, Annie and Edward dive into their blintzes as Go-Go Boy eats an egg white omelet with salsa and a glass of water. Patrick asked Go-Go Boy what it’s like to be able to have sex with anyone you want to. Go-Go Boy smiles and throws the question back at them both. Edward shakes his head as Patrick pushes Go-Go Boy for an answer, agreeing that he and Edward are hot, but Go-Go Boy is in a different league. Just then, Sapphire and Gordo come in and sits down next to Edward. Sapphire pauses, looks at Go-Go Boy and asks “Go-Go Boy?” Go-Go Boy nods and Sapphire looks at Patrick and smiles knowingly.

Edward and Patrick stand in line, waiting to board their flight from JFK to LAX. A young couple, with three screaming/crying children jump the line to board. The Dad lifts a toddler out of the stroller, hands it to the Mom, and tries collapsing the stroller but something is wrong. The Mom quiet-yells at the Dad as the Dad struggles with the stroller. The crying amplifies. Edward looks at Patrick and says, a little too loudly – “Thank God We’re Gay”. Patrick nods, “Thank God”. Just then, two super-gay gay guys jump the line with their two babies, both crying. Annie steps out from behind Patrick. Patrick puts up a hand as if to say, “Don’t Start”.

Edward swims laps at the Olympic swimming pool at USC. A very tall, fit woman, holding a stop watch, times him. Edward touch the wall right below her and comes up gasping. She bends down to tell him he shaved two seconds off his time, and that he needs to shave another 22. He informs her he is going to swim another 100 laps and as she stands up and walks away, she tells him to lock up and that he has a fan, gesturing to a guy sitting in the bleachers.

Edward, pumped up, breathing heavily and dripping wet, wearing only the tiniest Speedo to hold his junk, climbs out of the pool. He walks over to Bleacher Boy, who hands him a towel and smiles. Edward thanks him, and walks to the locker rooms. Bleacher Boy looks crestfallen as Edward stops the door, smiles at Bleacher Boy, looks around, gestures with his head for Bleacher Boy to follow him into the lockers. Bleacher Boy smiles and sprints to Edward, who holds the door open for him.

Patrick walks away from the Rave, gets to his rental car and texts Edward that he’s exhausted, heading back to the hotel, and will meet him at the airport. Just then, Go-Go Boy runs with up with his arm around another smoking hot Go-Go Boy – his twin brother. The brother smiles at him. Patrick raises his hand with the clicker in it and unlocks the car.

Episode 4

“Built To Last”

On a beautiful southern California day, a caravan of classic cars glides up Vista Del Mar, heading north to the 105 Freeway. To the left is the Santa Monica Bay, full of oil tankers waiting to unload their fuel. To the right, jets scream overheads as they take off from LAX.

Arnold leads with his totally outrageous 1960 Lincoln Convertible, followed by Sapphire in her 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with T-Tops.

Next, is Patrick in a ridiculous 1978 Pinto Cruising Wagon and Edward, who follows in his 1956 Cadillac Eldorado.

Bringing up the rear is Gordo, in a sublime 1970 Dodge Challenger convertible, followed by Annie, in her stunning 1964 Cadillac Fleetwood.

A giant banner hangs over San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood – “RAINBOW CAR SHOW – Presented By Great Autos of Yesteryear” followed by another banner below it – “All Proceeds Donated to The Trevor Project” as they all pull into the show grounds. Hundreds of classic cars from all eras fill up the boulevard that is closes to traffic and spill over into the Pacific Design Center. A DJ spins oldies Rock and Roll as gaggles of young, shirtless, gay boys do something they would never do – dance to oldies rock and roll.

Banners hang over an oversized booth – “MEMORY LANE – Classic Car Sales and Service” and “WE CAN HELP WITH YOUR WOODY”, as both twin-brother Go-Go Boys, in the requisite G-Strings, pose with attendees and a stunning 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible with its doors wide open.

Patrick staffs the booth with his sales manager from the store, Mariana, and his chief car mechanic, Oleg. They are covered in rainbow colors and handing out goodies.

Across from them is another fundraising booth that appears to be super-busy, with the banner – “TITS ON YOUR HEAD – $10 BUCKS”. Famous female Porn Star, topless, with large and pendulous breasts, lays them on the heads of two drag queens who gasp in mock-horror as Annie snaps a Polaroid and hands it to them. They smile and kiss Porn Star on each check, leaving large lipstick lips. A long line of drag queens are waiting for their turn, waving ten-dollar bills.

Later that month, Patrick, with long hair and a goatee, steps away from garage, walks through the Memory Lane showroom, past a stunning 1957 Chevrolet Bel-air Convertible. Ira turns around, leaning on a cane. Patrick pauses for a moment, says nothing, then walks up to him and gives him a bear hug. Ira closes his eyes, drops his cane, and bear hugs him back.
